first_imgAdvertisements HEART Trust/NTA to Stage National Entrepreneurial Conference in March EducationFebruary 5, 2009 FacebookTwitterWhatsAppEmail The HEART Trust/National Training Agency (NTA), will stage a two-day National Entrepreneurial Conference, at the Knutsford Court Hotel, Kingston, March 5- 6, which will focus on opportunities for entrepreneurs.The annual conference, which is in its 4th year, will be held under the theme, ‘Honouring Entrepreneurs: the Backbone of a Nation’s Economy.’ It will cater to all entrepreneurs, both who are in business or are about to start their own businesses.The objectives of the conference include: developing an entrepreneurship culture in Jamaica; research and promotion of entrepreneurship; provision of opportunities for potential and existing entrepreneurs; and providing information to enhance business development.Speaking at the official launch, at the agency’s headquarters in Kingston, chairman of the planning committee, Clive Grossett, said that the targeting of entrepreneurs is because they have a significant role to play in any economically challenged society.“It is the entrepreneurs who will make things happen. It is the entrepreneur who will, out of nothing, start, develop and relentlessly work on an idea towards a successful business outcome,” he said.He added that it is the entrepreneur who will make the difference and turn the economy around, against the background of the downturn in the world economy.Topics will include: Financing Options, Formalise it; Business Plan Writing Workshop; Technical Assistance; Entrepreneurial Education; Emerging Opportunities for Social Groups; Recommendation for an Entrepreneurial Policy; Invocation; and the Creative Industry.He predicted that the conference will attract in excess of 200 persons.President of the Small Business Development Agency, Andrea Graham, welcomed the conference as appropriate, based on the current global occurrences.“This conference is timely, as we are living in exciting times. It is the time when true entrepreneurship will emerge, and the skills of those persons need to be packaged or repackaged, properly,” she said.She added that it is very important for business operators to be trained, exposed and networked into an environment that will help their businesses to develop.Incubation Manager at Technology Innovation Centre, Dionne Palmer, in endorsing the conference, noted that it will assist entrepreneurs in remaining strong and viable. She implored everyone to come out and participate.The conference is a collaborative effort involving the HEART Trust/ NTA, the University of the West Indies (UWI), the University of Technology (UTech), and Northern Caribbean University (NCU). Additional partners include: Management Institute for National Development (MIND), Self Start, Technology Innovation Centre (TIC) and the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ).
